Happy Holidays! (December 2017)

Martha and I wanted to wish everyone a Happy Hanukkah, a very Merry Christmas and our hope for a peaceful and prosperous New Year!

INFOCUS PhotoBid 2017 at Phoenix Art Museum (November 2017)

On Thursday, November 16th, INFOCUS PhotoBid 2017 will take place at the Phoenix Art Museum. Don’t miss out! The event starts at 6:00 PM and will last until 9:00 PM. It’s your chance to enjoy the company of fellow photography enthusiasts and then bid on incredible images created by world-class photographers! See you there!

UPDATE: PhotoBid 2017 was a great success! We managed to come out on top when bidding for a beautiful Bill Timmerman image and a book/print set by Chris Anthony. You may recall Bill is the photographer responsible for the iconic images of the Byrne residence taken in 1998, as well as those captured at our behest in 2015, most of which are on view here.

Congratulations to INFOCUS, Rebecca Senf, Chief Curator of the Center for Creative Photography and the volunteers & staff of the Phoenix Art Museum for a successful event!

Frank Lloyd Wright 150th Anniversary Gala (November 2017)

The Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation is celebrating the 150th anniversary of the architect’s birth with a gala at Taliesin West on November 4th – we can’t wait!!!

UPDATE: The Frank Lloyd Wright 150th Anniversary Gala, (held this past Saturday on November 4th), was a huge success – a completely sold out event – with well over 220 enthusiasts joining Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation staff and School of Architecture at Taliesin faculty & students for an evening of engaging music, scrumptious food and heartfelt words from invited speakers.

The dinner prepared by Chef Charles Wiley of Mountain Shadows was absolutely sublime, and we had a spectacular sunset and full moon to bookend the evening’s activities. I don’t think you could’ve scripted a more enjoyable evening – memorable!

Phoenix-based photographer Catherine Slye visited the Byrne residence on October 21st/22nd, when she spent the evening with us as part of a year-long photographic project she’s been working on called “Nightlight”. Please visit her website to learn more about this fantastic series of images, and support her Kickstarter campaign!

The Sea Ranch Revisited (July 2017)

A teaser image Martha captured during a July 4th visit to The Sea Ranch, located along the coastline of Sonoma County… …more soon!

PHX Architecture Forum (April 2017)

Martha and I had the pleasure of attending the last in the 2016/2017 series of architecture and design-focused talks at For The People this past Thursday evening. We deeply regret not being able to attend Colwell Shelor Landscape Architecture’s talk on March 2nd, but we were thrilled to be able to hear Benjamin Hall describe how the holistic design approach he’s been refining since graduating in 2008 was applied to his award-winning White Stone Studios urban renewal project in downtown Phoenix during his April 13th talk.

Deck Replacement Project at the Byrne Residence (March 14th – June 23rd)

I’ll be kicking off a project at the Byrne residence in a few more days with the intent of replacing the support beams, (and planks), for the east deck, accessed from the Master Bedroom. The desert can be a rather harsh environment, especially on wood, so after almost 20 years, it’s time to remove what’s there and replace it with an exact replica capable of serving for the next two decades! Stay tuned…

UPDATE: You can check out the teaser images we posted while the project was underway here, and the full post describing the project from start to finish here.

Will Bruder Lecture & Art + Architecture Tour (February 2017)

Will Bruder will give a free lecture titled “From Head to Heart to Hand: Making Architecture in the Digital Age” at the ASU Art Museum on Thursday, February 9th at 6:30 PM. You can check out the ASU Events page here for more details.

On Saturday, March 4th, Will Bruder will be conducting an “Art + Architecture Tour” of four signature projects, (plus lunch at the WBA studio), from 10:00 AM until 4:00 PM. You can check out the ASU Events page here for more details, (including how to purchase tickets for the tour).

UPDATE: The Art + Architecture Tour, (held this past Saturday on March 4th), was a huge success – a sold out event – with well over 40 architecture enthusiasts joining Will for a tour of four very special projects. The weather was perfect, the pacing spot-on, and the overall experience was sublime! Congratulations to Will Bruder Architects and to the ASU Art Museum!

Will Bruder featured in IMAGES Arizona (February 2017)

Will Bruder is featured in an article appearing in the February 2017 edition of IMAGES Arizona, titled “Back To Eldorado: Architect Will Bruder”. He spoke about his fondness for story telling and the importance of listening to clients, using the soon-to-be-completed project, Eldorado on 1st, as an excellent example of both.

Martha and I were thrilled to see two images of the Byrne Residence included in the article, (an unexpected – and most appreciated – surprise). Thanks Will!

Happy New Year! (January 2017)

We opted to celebrate New Year’s Eve this year with a concert, so off to the Musical Instrument Museum we went! Happily, we made it there after the rains had stopped, enjoyed the show, then dashed back home in hopes of avoiding more rain – we did!
